Endowed Professor in Construction Engineering and Management Position

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications and nominations for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Paul S. Roel Chair in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) beginning August 2017. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2016 and will continue until the position is filled. The successful applicant will have the responsibility of developing a new undergraduate degree program in Construction Management, and managing existing undergraduate and graduate programs in Construction Engineering. Duties will include leading the CEM area, developing and teaching CEM undergraduate and graduate courses, establishing and developing a successful, well-focused research program, supervising undergraduate and graduate students, interacting with the construction and engineering community, and recruiting CEM faculty. The successful candidate must possess, or be able to achieve within three years, the California Professional Engineering Registration. Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering-Water Reuse Position Announcement

San Diego State University (SDSU) has embarked on an interdisciplinary area of excellence (AoE) program, which is a water-focused initiative that includes multiple disciplines across campus. As part of this effort, the Environmental Engineering Program in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at SDSU now invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of water reuse starting August 2017. The Department is strongly committed to excellence in both research and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. SDSU embraces the teacher-scholar model. Therefore, candidates should be active and productive researchers with strengths in the biological, chemical, and physical aspects of environmental engineering and have the ability to enhance and sustain our core environmental engineering curriculum. Spring Design Day 2016

Our Capstone Design Class (CivE 495) held their Design Day on May 4, 2016. Professor John Prince and Professor James Haughey have been teaching the course for the past 6 semesters. The AGC Specialty Contractor's Council presents SDSU Aztec Tailgate/Game/Sky Show! September 03, 2016

The Annual SDSU Aztec Tailgate/Game and Sky Show is set for Saturday, September 3rd at Qualcomm Stadium.....What a great day to make it a company party, and invite your employees!
Have you made plans yet for an employee appreciation picnic this year? If not, the AGC Specialty Contractors' Council is once again welcoming large groups to this fun event! We are proud to be celebrating the 16th Anniversary of the Annual AGC/SDSU Aztec Tailgate! Your employees & family will enjoy great food, entertainment, a football game and fireworks! At the same time, you are helping raise funds for scholarships to engineering students at SDSU's Construction Engineering Management (CEM) Program. All you have to do is purchase the tickets and the AGC Specialty Contractors' committee does all the rest.
Tailgate begins at 3:00 PM , and Game Time is 5:30 PM!
Location is in Section C2, QUALCOMM parking lot, just inside the main entrance to the right. The best fireworks in town will start after the game.

    CCEE Seminar-Development of nanocomposite membranes for water treatment and reuse: Dr. Baolin Deng, Director of Missouri Water Resources Center

    Dr. Baolin Deng is currently C. W. LaPierre Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Director, Missouri Water Resources Research Center (MoWRRC). He is a joint faculty member in the Chemical Engineering Department and chaired the department for 6 years until this year. Dr. Deng obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1996 and conducted research in the US Air Force Research Laboratory as NRC Research Associate prior to his academic career, first at New Mexico Tech and then at MU since 2001. Deng’s research concerns with drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment and reuse by membrane filtration, and fundamental kinetics and mechanism of contaminant transformation in aquatic systems. He has been PI/co-PI for three dozen research projects including the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, and published over 90 journal articles and 9 book chapters. Deng is the Associate Editor/Asian Regional Editor for Environmental Engineering Science. He teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses, including Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering, Physicochemical and Biological Processes, Environmental Sustainability, Water Treatment Process Design, Aquatic Chemistry, Environmental Chemical Kinetics, and Hazardous Waste Management.

    CCEE Seminar-Real World Engineering Ethics Case Studies: Steve Starrett, Ph.D, P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE, F.EWRI

    Dr. Steve Starrett is an Associate Professor of civil engineering at Kansas State University and has long studied engineering ethics topics. He has taught for nearly 15 years two graduate level engineering ethics courses for primarily working professionals pursuing a graduate degree via distance. One of his courses has recently been recognized by the National Academy of Engineering as an Exemplar engineering ethics course. Dr. Starrett with Dr. Bertha and Dr. Lara nearly have an engineering ethics case studies book completed. Dr. Starrett is currently the President-Elect of ASCE/EWRI and is a Fellow of ASCE and EWRI. He is also the Director of the Honor and Integrity System at Kansas State University.

    2nd Annual Simpson Strong-Tie Workshop

    Please mark your calendars for the 2nd annual Simpson Strong-Tie workshop! Last year, we hosted the workshop here at SDSU, but this year UCSD is hosting the event. It will be held on January 29, 2016 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and they will have breakfast and lunch provided. The demonstrations are being held in the High Bay Physics Laboratory yard.

    2015 Outstanding Graduate Feature

    For the month of July and August, we will celebrate our Outstanding Graduates of 2015, who are chosen by vote by the CCEE Faculty. For the month of August, we are featuring: Keith Walsh. Keith Walsh has been deeply involved in the Construction Engineering Program since he joined the department in 2011. Please help us congratulate our Outstanding Graduate featured for August!

    Additional Biography of Keith Walsh:
    Keith led the AGC/CMAA Student Chapter as President in 2013 and has facilitated successful competitions and events for our students throughout his involvement. He led competition teams to national championships including the NECA Green Energy Challenge, the Design Build Institute of America Student Competition, and the Associated Schools of Construction "Reno Competition". In addition to student competitions and department involvement, Keith has held full time internships since 2012 while maintaining "Deans List" status throughout his college career. Keith has now started an exciting career as an Associate Project Manager for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Tanner is a native to San Diego and transferred over to SDSU with an Associates Degree from Cuyamaca Community College and Grossmont Community College.     SDSU Student Chapter for American Water Works Association (AWWA) Annual Conference Results

    The AWWA national annual conference was held in Anaheim, CA from June 7-June 10, 2015 and had over 20,000 attendees. Our SDSU Chapter consisted of Cari Campbell, Amy Bigelow, Federick Pinongcos, Kyle Nelson, Alexa Zapata and Loren Miller. They entered the Cal-Nevada poster competition and won first place with their entry entitled: "Detecting Microplastics in Water and Wastewater Streams Using Flourescence Spectroscopy." Congratulations!
