Bio

Sahar Ghanipoor Machiani is an Associate Professor of SDSU Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, an Associate Director (SDSU Director) of Safe-D National University Transportation Center (UTC), and a Co-director of SDSU Smart Transportation Analytics Research (STAR) Lab. Sahar holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology, a Master of Science in Transportation Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech (2014). Before joining SDSU, she worked as a Research Associate at Center for Infrastructure-Based Safety Systems, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). Since joining SDSU in 2015, she has received around $2M external grants as PI/Co-PI from prestigious organizations such as National Science Foundation and Department of Transportation. She is the recipient of WTS Technology for Transportation Award and Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Western District Transportation Achievement Award. She has expertise in traffic safety, driver behavior modeling, traffic signal operation, connected/automated vehicles, evacuation modeling, and infrastructure-based safety systems.
