Graduate Program Degrees

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at San Diego State University (SDSU) offers a Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science (MS) degree in Environmental Engineering, and a Joint SDSU-UCSD Doctoral degree in Engineering Science.  In addition, the Master of Engineering Program is available.  It is a blended curriculum of engineering and business courses.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of our Master of Science program in Civil Engineering will be prepared for successful careers in both private and public sectors. They will have the option to specialize in Construction Engineering and Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering, and can complete coursework in multiple areas to satisfy the degree requirements. Graduates will have an appreciation and commitment for life-long learning and will be prepared to successfully continue their graduate education at the doctoral level if they so choose. Lastly, and importantly, they will be faithful guardians of high ethical and professional standards indispensable in Civil Engineering as a “people serving profession” and they will be advocates of diversity and inclusion in their professional and social settings. 

Degree Learning Outcomes (DLOs)

The following are the degree learning outcomes for the Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering:

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of foundational concepts and advanced principles in civil engineering.
  2. Analyze a complex civil engineering problem and develop a solution through independent study, culminating in a written thesis or project report.
  3. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in oral and/or written technical communication skills.

Master of Science in Environmental Engineering

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of our Master of Science programs in Environmental Engineering will be prepared for successful careers in both private and public sectors.  They will have the option to specialize in Air Quality and Pollution Control, Water Quality, Water and Wastewater Treatment, Soil Remediation, or Solid and Hazardous Waste.  They will have an appreciation and commitment for life-long learning and will be prepared to successfully continue their graduate education at the doctoral level if they so choose.  Lastly, and importantly, they will be faithful guardians of high ethical and professional standards indispensable in Environmental Engineering as a “people serving profession” and they will be advocates of diversity and inclusion in their professional and social settings.
