The J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program, which is part of the College of Engineering, is excited to offer the new Construction Management major in addition to the ABET-accredited and well-established Construction Engineering major, which will start in Fall 2021.

Dr. Matthew Verbyla (Environmental Eng.) and Lorelay Mendoza (B.S. Environmental Eng., class of 2019) recently published a paper in Environmental Engineering Science journal entitled Environmental Engineering for the 21st Century: Increasing Diversity and Community Participation to Achieve Environmental and Social Justice.

Carlos Gonzalez currently serves as the Regional Executive Officer & Sr. Vice President, Western Region South, for Clark Construction. Originally from Mexico City, Carlos' first memory of SDSU was walking across the footbridge on College Avenue and thinking how beautiful the campus was. This first impression led Carlos to enroll at SDSU in Fall 1994.

Dr. Alicia Kinoshita, Associate Professor, Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering, studies how fire alters landscapes and impacts urban environments.

Assistant Professor Hassan Tavakol's Urban Water Group (UWG) has worked with The San Diego LGBT Community Center on a pro-bono research activity to help the Center with their seasonal flooding occurrences.

Dr. Joaquin Camacho, Assistant Professor, ME Department, was interviewed to discuss SDG&E's wildfire power shutoffs. Dr. Camacho works on combustion and energy efficiency in manufacturing which provides a unique background for this new California dilemma.
